Edit:
Liam Harker, 17, RIP.
Remember Liam Harker that I previously blogged about, here? He passed away on 5th May. Do read the article, here. When I came to the final sentence of the article, I teared. Yes Liam, you'll never walk alone.
Liverpool v Manchester City.
Wooh I thoroughly enjoyed this match, we dominated majority of the game and it was fun to watch the lads letting themselves loose and zam in goals (well one goal, really, but it could've been lotsa goals XD). Despite all the criticism prior to this game about Kuyt, I think he had a great game, he did really well in winning back possession, covering spaces, even linking up with Torres etc etc. But Kuyt seems to have some problem with his confidence maybe? Unlike Mascherano who sometimes tend to be a solo player (not that I'm complaining too much, Mascherano's our Liverpool Roberto Carlos man, and he's one of the best tacklers well 2nd to Carragher), Kuyt seems to have a lack of confidence about him, he tends to hesitate in the face of defenders and when other strikers would've attempted to flick the ball run forward and zam in a goal, he likes to pass it to other available strikers like Babel or Torres. But yeap nonetheless, with all do respect, he did great tonight. :D Go Kuyt!
And if I have to be really pick one, I guess Babel was A LITTLE off tonight. After that stunning last-minute goal back in the Chelsea game, he missed lotsa chances for this game. Especially the one where he skyrockted the ball in front of goal, after Torres did a brilliant job at containing the ball and picking him out. But yeap he's definitely not written off, Babel's always a dangerous striker to look out for.
It seems Alonso is going to leave us. :,( He's been pretty quiet this season, but I agree with the commentator that he has one of the, if not the widest range of passing, just watch him take the ball from the left to right flank, it's mesmerising. I guess we didn't see too much of that this season though, but we'll definitely be missing him. :(
Oh oh and I think if I have to pick a MOTM from Manchester City, then I'll definitely pick Joe Hart. If not for awesome save after save after save, it would've been easily 3-0. Even with difficult balls like y'know those that barely skim within the far-side of the net, he still managed to flick it clear! Wooh if that's a preview of the next generation of England's GKs, it certainly looks promising! :D
When Didi Hamann got on, the whole of Anfield gave him a standing ovation. He was in the Istanbul 2005 team, and he was one of the key players to bring us back from hell (3-0) to eventually come back and win it. It has been a fantastic 7 years at Anfield.
There was this moment in the game when Stevie knows he's offside and he looks over at the ref while running with the ball on the right flank with a defender trailing, and he actually blew an imaginary whistle to signal to the ref to blow the whistle. Hahaha that scene really tickle me, and this tells you a lot about the refereeing huh. What's with late whistling these days man, seriously. I say send them back to refereeing school! Referees are supposed to ensure fair play around the pitch, not sway a game to either side by making blatantly stupid mistakes. But they're still human I guess. Show us some improvement eh, ref? *silence* Oh oh I'm not "in the line of the ref's vision", so the ref says play on. How convenient. -_-" Thank god for replays!
Ooh then Mr. Meatloaf (Voronin) came on for Gerrard, for me that wasn't so much a tactical move, I guess Rafa played him to attract potential buyers? I think it's the same for Alonso too. Hmm I know it sounds cruel, but I won't be missing too much if Voronin goes. =x
Okay transfer issues aside, we had lotsa sleek and smooth 1-2 passes around the field, I guess defense in Manchester City's camp was asleep last night. But boy did Benjani popped in quite a few scares, he's got Drogball's pace and power man.
Haha and you guys can prolly hear the Torres song many times in almost every single match lately. But yeah I'm gonna sing it anyways. Bear with me. :D
His armband proved he was a red, Torres~ Torres~ You'll Never Walk Alone it says, Torres~ Torres~
We bought the lad from sunny Spain, He gets the ball he scores again! Fer~nan~do Torres~ Liverpool's Number 9~
Nananananananana nana~ Nananananananananana nana~
*accompanied by Kopites bouncing along while singing in the legendary Kop end* :D
Most if not all strikers have a signature move, right? And Torres obviously has one too. He's got this knack of driving defenders (in front of him near the edge of the box) and then he'll abruptly pull away from them by trailing/dragging the ball with him and shoots from the far side of the post. And this time, after getting past 2 defenders, he scored between the legs of Hart. It's awesome when he does it!!!! And he applauded the fans after celebrating his goal, grrrrr how can one not like him man!!! Supressing the bimbo in me. Friggin' brilliant! *breaks into another round of Torres song*
Hehe then in the second half Benayoun came on. There's something about him that appeals to me, I know he's not a pretty boy like Torres, but his hair and this air about him. My friends think I'm nuts though. x_x" And the way he runs, haha it always cracks me up kinda. He looks like he's on the edge of tipping over whenever he runs, and that kinda distracts the opponents sometimes. :D I think Benayoun's got potential too, like the other lads, he certainly hasn't reached his max yet.
The commentators were talking about our waaaay overdue stadium (Hicks and Gilette you bloody yanks, are you listening?), but I'm not complaining. On one hand I hope it comes sooner, as it'll accomodate more fans, but then it also means higher ticket prices, and we'll be tearing down the Kop, I know the fans will do their best to replicate the original Kop End, but it'll be different. Argh dillema. @_@
Oh and before the kick-off, they zoomed in on a poster saying "Save Sven". Yes save Sven dammit! He didn't work out for England (well, then Steve McClaren came along and did a sewage job), but he pulled up the ranking for Manchester City this season. Thaksin had too much coconut juice, he's nuts to let Sven go, U_U" after leaving Thailand's political scene in a not-so-glorious fashion, he's changng job to be an owner/manager is it? U_U" Don't let ignorant foreigners butcher the future of English football even if they have stacks of cash! Heck maybe I should start making a poster that says "Save English Football" or somethin, with bad refs, bad boardroom scuffles.
I quote our Great Bill Shankly, "At a football club, there's a holy trinity - the players, the manager and the supporters. Directors don't come into it. They are only there to sign the cheques." Hahaha well-said. It's all about the beautiful game, leave the politics dammit!
Well well, I'm hopeful about the next season already! And the lads wore the new jersey tonight!!! I've preordered mine already! ^_^ Happy x Happy!
