Days fly by during recess week

Who let the dogs out? Who? Who? Who? Who?

NEWSFLASH from channelnewasia:

JI detainee Mas Selamat Kastari escapes from Singapore detention centre
Posted: 27 February 2008 2045 hrs

SINGAPORE : A massive police operation is underway in Singapore after the leader of the Jemaah Islamiyah network here, Mas Selamat Kastari, escaped from detention at 4.05pm on Wednesday.

A statement from the Home Affairs Ministry says Mas Selamat walks with a limp and is presently at large.

He is not known to be armed and is one of Singapore's most wanted men.

Extensive police resources have been deployed to track him down after he escaped from the Whitley Road Detention Centre.

Anyone with information about him can contact the police at 999.

Mas Selamat was arrested by the Indonesian police on Bintan island in January 2006.

He was picked up then for using a fake identity card.

Based on investigations then, Indonesia's elite anti-terror police discovered he was the leader of the Singapore Jemaah Islamiyah network, a terrorist organisation.

They then deported the man to Singapore in 2006.

The 45-year-old father of four was also said to be involved in JI's plans to mount attacks against foreign and local establishments here.

These included the US Embassy and American Club, the Defence Ministry headquarters at Bukit Gombak and the Education Ministry building at North Buona Vista Drive.

Mas Selamat fled Singapore in December 2001 following an Internal Security Department operation against the terrorist organisation.

The militant leader had been on the run after Singapore authorities discovered plans to crash seven truck filled with bombs at various locations around the island.

Investigations also revealed that he was the mastermind behind a plan to hijack an airplane and crash it into Changi airport.

When he was last arrested in Indonesia, officers found literature on bomb making on the man.

Mas Selamat's deportation to Singapore two years ago was seen as a significant development in the close network of cooperation amongst intelligence officers in the region to share information on terror suspects and to defeat the terror threat.

The islandwide manhunt has fanned out to areas in Beauty World in Upper Bukit Timah and Goldhill Avenue near Barker Road.

Officers are also knocking on homes asking residents if they have seen the escapee.

Police have also formed a formidable blockade around Malcolm Park, near the Singapore Chinese Girls' School. - CNA/ch

Woah! My Dad called hours ago and told us there were many policemen and army people at his place, immediately tuned in to CNA. This is getting to be really bad. And it's getting worse by the minute. I wonder how the JI leader (S'pore network) escaped Whitley Detention Centre especially when he's alleged to walk with a limp. It's been more than 7 hours already for God's sakes. For missing person cases, the chances of finding the said person diminishes as time wears on (think: indirect proportion). The main thing is, this is NO ordinary missing person case. We're talking about the alleged JI leader here, the very same person who's been planning to bomb several places in Singapore, and aims to crash into the Changi Airport. It doesn't help that this very same man we're talking about is a trained professional in bomb-making nor that he's handpicked by JI heads in Afghanistan (allegedly).

Honestly, if Mr JI were to sell me curry puffs on the street, I would never have recognised him. He's got a super common face lor. Guess the only significant characteristic is his limp, but who's to know if his "limp" is for real? Geez, conspiracy theories, this is really getting to me. Lol. Last I heard, school's out for Singapore Chinese Girls' School tomorrow. Is anybody cheering? Your guess is as good as mine. ;)

Sigh. Looks like our squeaky clean image's going up in smoke. With the recent successful bid for the very first Youth Olympics 2010 and the highly lucrative F1 bid, this devastating piece of news can NOT be more timely. Geez. Really hope he's nabbed soon. Well, for once, I am following the CNA live feed closely (I'm not that apathetic after all *phew*). I wonder why the Singapore Police Force isn't having any live media conference or release any statement to the public. o_o??

We're on Yahoo! and BBC now. We're under major international spotlight now, and all for the WRONG reasons. U_U"

Anyhow, be safe everyone!

It's already Day 3 of the recess week. (I'm not MIA-ing, haha!) Completed some readings. :D 2 assignments left to complete. I'm feeling so lazeeeee! :p

Looking forward to Ah Shing's dance production on the 29th.
And then there's Aunty Lum's birthday celebration on the 1st March.

Jiayou for your dance Ah Shing! But why did they disallow banners!?!
Haha I know she must be super nervous/excited/jitter/nervy about it
now, but just spot us in the auditorium and do your thang! Or should
we like wave to you before it begins? Lol! Don't worry bud we're right
behind (umm, right in front of you) ya!

Heh heh I can feel Aunty Lum's vodka calling for me already, I bet Yutini
feels it too. :p If we can't finish the bottle on her big day, fret not cus' I'll
be bringing my bag along. ;D

After the recess week, it'll be 6 more weeks of lectures followed by exams (!!!).
Very soon it'll be the holidays! Yippeeeeee! Smelly's gonna work her socks
off, save some, spend some. Hmmm not sure yet as to how I'll be using my
3 mths break but I guess I'll prolly be working for close to 2/3 of my break
and then the remaining of it... Heh I'm still planning. I'm a sucker for plans
though. I prefer my things spontaneous. :D We shall see.

Oh oh I found a new anime series just yesterday, called "Clannad".
Watched one episode of it and I'm liking it so far. The ending song's super cute
and heart-warming. The melody's reminiscent of those nursery rhymes we
used to hear as children. :D So I'm gonna share the video of it with you fellas.
I'm using this very same song for my background music so you might wanna
stop the song before playing the vid. The title is だんご大家族 (Dango Daikazoku)
and is sun by 茶太 (Chata). Enjoy! ;)

UPUDATO!

Smelly goes to the dentist.

After 6-7 years of MIA-ing from the dentist's chair, I finally sat on one just hours ago. The total bill was totally jaw-dropping. Can you imagine all I had was a 'basic' (quoted by the dentist) wash, filling, X-ray an
d fluoride treatment!?! But I guess it was all worth it (I hope!), cus' the X-ray says I actually have 2 wisdom tooth! And the best thing is BOTH of them grow SIDEWAYS. T_T Suay or what? You tell me. Haha but thankfully the dentist told me with regular flossing it might help to alleviate any problems in the future. Hmm will flossing widen the gap between our tooth? Shucks! Shoulda asked her!

The entire process was quite alright I guess. My sis an
d I were freaking out the whole time during the wait. I guess our primary schoo
l experiences totally undermined our trust in the entire dentist population. Remember how they drilled and 'mined' at your teeth till they were raw and hurt a lot and bled a lot? Haha I can still remember that jab when I was still a Pri 1 kid.
'Best' time of my life, oh yeah. ._.

The dentist did an examination for me and then she did an X-ray for my tooth, my first time ever looking at X-ray snappies of my teeth, all of them! The feeling was like looking at ultrasound snappies of babies! Not t
hat I've had any. Yet. Lol. Had to bite down on this oversized plastic mouthpiece thingo, almost choked on the thing when I tried to swallow my saliva cus my mouth got a lil' dry from all that vacuuming. So...NEVER swallow during a dental procedure. Take that from ole Smelly. :)

She laid a body pack (sorta like an astronaut's blanket filled with cool fluids) over me and took the X-ray. And I had goggles on the entire time I was in there. Did the filling after the X-ray and it was really painful m
y nails were digging into my hands as she drilled at my teeth, there was this numbing pain throughout the entire body. Was super happy went she finished the filling. She used white filling instead of the greyish black ones they used in the past.

The finale was fluoride treatment. I had to put on these teethguards like thingos (those wrestlers and American footballers use) and they were filled with these greenish gel like substance. According to the dentist, it was to remineralize my teeth and prevent and slow down tooth deca
ying processes. And I came out feeling sparkly clean. :D*

My sis's problem was really profanities-inducing, she'd complained of a pain in her tooth. And the dentist did an X-ray for her, after which she did a nerve test where she sent electric pulses through her tooth and knocked on her tooth. And the dentist told her her nerve died, cus' the previous dentist might have ruptured it during a filling. I went O_O when she told me that. I've never known there's such a thing!!! Hope her tooth don't give her any m
ore problems or she's gonna hafta get it removed which will definitely hurt, not sure how much but no doubt it will.

Wii-weet!

Yep we finally went to get the Wii 2 days ago at Funan. The enti
re process was super funny and embarrassing. Lol. We got the bundle and an extra Wiimote and charger for the Wiimotes. The 2 free games we chose were Cooking Mama (DS owners should be familiar with this game :D) and Tony Hawks something-something. The Wii Sports was included in the bundle too. The minute we reached home, we went about demolishing the packaging and got the Wii console out. It almost felt like we'd found leprechaun's gold or something. Lol.

We played Wii Sports most of the time, stuff like tennis, baseball, bowling and boxing are my favs! Haha I don't like golf as much, putting seems like mission impossible with the Wiimote. Lol. Our right arms are aching big time T_T. We found out that it's advised to do some warm-up before doing Wii Sports O_O.

And there's this function where you can test y
our fitness level. The first time I did it I had the fitness equivalent of a 33 year old. Zzz. I did it a second time and managed to lower it to a more respectable 29 year old. Haha! Besides these games, there's this thingy called the Mii Channel where you can create Miis and you get to vote for other Miis posted by your friends or other people around the world. And there're Miis that looks like Snoopy, Doraemon, Darth Vader, Michael Jackson, Charlie Brown etc etc. Haha super creative people!

So gamers can feel less guilty playing Wii, cus' of slight consolation that we're doing exercise at the same time. XD As forced as it m
ight sound. But yeah we had a Wii-ly good time so far. :D

Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber at Fleet Street.

Ther was a barber and his wife~~~ (Love the songs in this movie!)

Yep watched it finally! Haha I can never miss o
ut on ANY movie starring Johnny Depp whatever role he might be playing, lead or no lead, Smelly's gotta watch it. We went for the student deal so we only paid $6 each for the tickets. :D It's rated M18 for violence and gore, but it was so elegantly played out, the songs weaved seamlessly into the movie itself, felt it really brought out the atmosphere, building up towards the climax at the end. Sweeney Todd's a play, and I can safely say this movie adaptation deserves 4.5 nachos platters! As for the 0.5, Tim Burton could've made it a lil' darker. I guess many people view Sweeney Todd differently, it can be seen as a satire (most significantly with the song about how dire and grim life in London was in the past, how Sweeney sees people in London as 'vermin' etc). The ending was most tragic. Haha fret not Smelly's not gonna ruin it for you guys. If you haven't watched it, whadya waiting for??

Sweeney Todd's definitely NOT for the faint-hearted. And if you have a queasy tummy at the sight of bloodied mess, then you oughta steer clear. :)

But if, like us, you've adapted to the gore in
the movie, then you'd be surprised to find it a lil...umm gratifying, as perverted as it might sound. Haha. Anyone up for Mrs Lovett's meat pies? ;D

P.S. I Love You, Lou Hei. Irish men are good lovers :)

Haha yep we love our lou hei alright. Met up wth Yu, Roo, 7 for P.S. I Love You at Cine. It was my first time paying to watch a romance movie (not including Titanic since it's a disaster movie :D) in a cinema. And it happened to be my first time being late for a movie. Lol. 15 mins late to be exact. Yutini left my ticket with the ticketing guy, got it and finally felt my way around the theater. Yeap you heard (umm, seen) right, I had to feel my way around, bending down occasionally to look for my row E. XD. Lesson 2: NEVER be late for a movie. :D

The movie's really heart-warming, though it kinda fizzled away about 30 mins nearing the end. It could've been better if the director picked up some pace in those last 30 mins. But yeah it was heart-warming all the same. It was touching how Gerry (Holly's late husband who died from a brain tumour) had 10 messages for Holly before he died as her 30th birthday present. Holly (Hillary Swank) finally finished all 10 tasks and found a closure to Gerry's death. Hillary was superb as the lost and grief-stricken widow. There was this scene where she j
ust came home from Gerry's funeral and she placed the urn at the foot of the bed and snuggled to her corner of the bed, and the camera zoomed in on her like that. You could almost feel what she (Holly) feels.

Ahhh after the movie, you can almost smell the love, no no not
just superficial BGR puppy love LOVE. It was something deeper y'know, mutual understanding (like how Gerry could anticipate Holly's response when she read the letter, awww), love for your family, love for your friends, unconditional love for life ultimately. I
appreciated how it wasn't one of those run-of-the-mill cheesy kinda romance movies, it was hmmm...special, cus' it was about love, and about life. Thought it sent a good message for people who, like Holly, had lost a loved one, to carry that love and live on strong cus' like what Holly's Mum said "You can't go on like this forever".

I'm gonna give 4 nachos platters for P.S. I Love You. Made me rethink the romance genre. :)

Okay mushy stuff aside. Headed down to the basement for some food, food in the name of CREPE. Haha yeah crepe. I'd wanted to have some REAL food, like chicken, chicken and chicken. :D Settled for Peach something something Crepe. It was yummylicious though we had a hard time 'sawing' away at our crepe. Hahaha it was fun tho. XD Hopped over to Heeren to window shop an
d get Roo's hairband. And they concluded that my style was TRIBAL after walking past this tribal-esque shop selling leather products and chokers (very Cherokee-ish me like! :D). I'm more of the rugged side, am I not? Tribal? Most certainly not. Hahaha tribal tattoos are sooo cheesy.

Choo choo-ed down to Bishan and met up with Aunty Lum and Bobo, and we bussed down to Thomson Rd for Zi Char and Lou Hei. Haha I love the yusheng! Loved the sweet and sour pork! Loved the cereal chicken! There was another table having yusheng and they lou hei-ed in silence, they were sitting throughout it all and we were O_O. Hahaha I guess they were just pai seh. XD

Walked to Thomson Plaza to have a cuppa and basically, just chill. The latte's goood! Took lotsa photos, credits to Roo's camera that day! :D I learnt a lot from our conversation, especially about palm-reading. Lol! Picsies below.
now you see it

I know you still do, but...

now you don't! magic! ;)
now you see it...

now you don't! Haha told you I know magic!

Wanna cuppa?

Kena bullied why trying to bai nian with you people T_T Lol.

Swallowing a bullet didn't help tho'. Hahaha.

Dilemma.

My Dad got some ummm cash surpluses recently. And he wants to get us a Nintendo Wii.

Nintendo Wii is really fun. Love the Wii Sports the most, very interactive, makes you sweat A LOT! Haha but PS3 carries more games! I'm eyeing the Dynasty Warriors 6. Hence, you see the dilemma I'm in now? Should I go for Wii's interactivity or PS3's gaming quality? I'm kinda worried we'll get bored with the Wii after some time. But with PS3's more for serious gaming? Or Xbox 360, but I'm not so crazy on graphics. Arghhh!

*squeak squeak... squeak squeak*

Ooh~ It's the Year of the Rat Rodent Hammies!

Uh huh you folks heard right, it's the Year of the ummm according to the 2 pet hamsters scuffling around at home, it's the Year of the Hammies. My mum's zodiac's Rat so she's pretty confident it'll be a super duper awesome 2008. Rat-ta-ta-ta-ta rat-ta-ta-ta (some Missy Elliot song, lol)

Sorry for my alleged abandonment of blog, haha the previous minute I was fretting over my CNY clothes, then shopping for them, and the next minute it's CNY already, and the feasting begins, gambling dens open in full glory. Haha my CNY was filled with umm vice, yep had a totally sinful CNY. Whatta way to start the lunar new year, eh? Haha let's see, Gluttony? Check. Greed? Check. Sloth? Hmm 50-50 I'd say, I mean we worked our butts off doing last minute spring cleaning (as usual!).

Cleared the most of Rocher chocolates and fell sick. Lol yea such a wimp. Ate A LOT of tangerines. Had steamboat. Pocketed many ang baos (omg, I'm so tempted to get a new jersey!!! How how? Should I?) Played Wii at my cousin's place! Haha Wii's super fun, and the best part is it feels almost like the real thing, we were sweating it out playing bowling, tennis, golf, Mario monopoly. Trust me, it's already entertaining enough just watching them play. Lol, if I win the Toto draw tonight I'm gonna get a Wii and buy a Liverpool FC share!

Oh yeah as for the gambling, won $3+ at Ban Luck the previous day, but lost $6+ at mahjong the next day. T_T MacDonald's meal. Haha oh well, it's all in good fun so it's okay.

A soccer update finally!

Chelsea 0-0 Liverpool

I'm pretty satisfied with the draw, really. Though Crouchy missing a few chances kinda disappointed me a wee bit. But there were so many funny moments during the match. Like Riise getting butt-grabbed by some Chelsea player during a tackle. And then the ref allegedly 'diving' after Mascherano balled him over. LOL! And that ref looks like a scrawny turkey. XD I think Skrtel (hope his wrist's okay now after getting mangled by Anelka), Mascherano (I love aggressive players!), Gerrard (as usual trying to cover the shortcomings all over the field, though he gave the ball away more than usual but he's definitely still up there alright), Babel did well and I thought Rafa's switch was kinda ???

Honestly, I think we had more chances of breaking the 0-0 deadlock than Chelsea did. My opinion on Kuyt hasn't changed much this season, you can count on him to lose the ball 8 out of 10 times he gets it. Keeping my hopes up still. :) There were some moments where we saw some brilliant one-touch passing, those moments were enough to give me hope that all's not lost. Oh yeah we're missing Torres last night alright.

As for the Share Liverpool FC issue, I'm all for it. I'd gladly plonk down 10K (please Cai Shen Ye help me help Liverpool tonight, please please!) if it means saving the club, if it means having a share in the club (think Barca, Madrid). What do Yankees know about English football. Grrrr when I heard they were gonna divert funds back into their American clubs, I seriously wanted to give them the boot treatment. HOW COULD THEY!?! Now that the fans are going against the Yankees, Rafa's safe for now. I'm standing by my stance, I like Rafa and really hope he's not gonna leave.

During the post-match conference, Crouchy was holding out a bottle of champagne to Carragher. Wonder what's that all about? Lol. As usual, You'll Never Walk Alone! ;)

p.s Sorry about ManU's loss against Man City (lol who am I kidding?). But my heart goes out to all who were commemorating the 50th Munich anniversary.
